An early morning vehicle accident on Highway 49 and 260th, seven miles east of Branford sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Trooper Mike Cagle with the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 6:43 a.m. a 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by Donald Hygema of 6164 280th, Branford rammed into the rear of a '84 Peterbilt tractor/trailer driven by Steven Crossmo of 1638 CR 252, Live Oak.
According to the report, the Peterbilt tractor came out of 260th traveling north on Highway 49 for approximately 1000 feet when the '97 Chevrolet hit it from the rear.
According to the report Hygema received a broken femur and was transported to Shands of Live Oak. The other subject was not injured.
Damages to the pickup was estimated at $5,000. The trailer suffered several hundred dollars in damages.
