With all the hoop-la over football, we must not forget the hard work the Lady Bucs have put in over the summer.
To my understanding after listening to the coaches, the Lady Bucs sent four athletes to volleyball camp at the University of Tampa. The four Lady Bucs was Elisha Aderholt, Allison Harris, Shauna Nettles and Rachel Eilers.
For the softball team, Haley Stebbins was an attendant at Troy State. Stebbins played with the varsity for a couple of games last year despite being a sixth grader, and made things happen. She was instrumental in the Bucs lone win playing a big role in an 18-17 win over Bronson to end the season.
Lauren Schultz found her way to the University of Florida basketball camp. Schultz, with a little push, is going to make someone a great asset to their team at the college level. It is good to see her out there so the folks at the next level are aware of her abilities.
It is probably not the politically correct thing to say, but one of my favorite athletes at Branford recently attended a basketball camp at the University of Texas. I have enjoyed watching Roxy Eilers on the volleyball, basketball and softball fields over the past couple of years. I have not seen any student athlete from the boys or girls that competes with more heart and determination than this Lady Buc.
Brett Suggs recently returned from his annual golf tournament and once again just missed the cut by one stroke against the very best golfers in the nation. Branford will be missing Suggs on the greens, but should prosper on the football field. This youngster surprised a lot of folks with his performance at the running back position in the spring. It sure looks like he has grown quite a bit over the summer which should bold well for the Buccaneer backfield.
