The Branford High School Buccaneers (3-5) traveled to Jacksonville on Friday night to take on the Bishop Snyder Cardinals (3-6). For the entire 48 minute competition, the Bucs failed to put points up on the board, leaving the stadium with another loss. The final score was 35-0.
The Cardinals received the ball to start the game. Within the opening minutes, the home team took the ball into the end zone for their first score of the night (7-0).
The defense for the Buccaneers held the home team out of the end zone for nearly the entire second quarter, until Bishop Snyder ran the ball down down the sideline for a 92 yard rushing touchdown, putting the visiting team in a 14 point deficit just before halftime.
The Bucs got the ball to start the second half but was unable to convert their drive into points, giving the ball back to the leading team. With nearly eight minutes to go in the third quarter, Colin Culver of the home team carried the ball across the plane for a Bishop Snyder touchdown (21-0). Two minutes later, the Cardinals sealed their victory with a 35 yard pass to Austin Cooper for another touchdown (28-0).
The Cardinals used the fourth quarter to add style points to the scoreboard, taking in another touchdown with eight minutes to go in the competition. The home team added another win to their record with a 35-0 win over the Buccaneers.
The Bucs racked up 141 yards of rushing offense, with Robert Morris leading the group with 52 yards. Cole Lamb was the second leading rusher with 35 yards gained in 14 attempts. Lamb also played on the defensive side of the ball and registered four tackles.
The Bucs will have a chance to improve their record this Friday night when they travel to Lafayette County for a conference game at 7:30 p.m.
